Mission Statement
NEPID will promote the participation of the Ethiopian Diaspora in the fight against HIV/AIDS by:
- Establishing a regularly updated and comprehensive data base on individuals and organizations in the Diaspora that have the skills and experience needed to build capacity in Ethiopia in the national campaign against HIV/AIDS;
- Providing members with detailed information on the needs and opportunities to participate in the national program, and the qualifications required;
- Facilitating a match between national needs and available Diaspora resources, assisting in the contracting process to ensure consistency of terms and conditions, and ensuring that the interests of both sides are maximized and reconciled;
- Maintaining a record of assignments and the experience of participants;
- Providing feedback (based on participant experience) to Ethiopian agencies on issues and problems related to Diaspora assignments in Ethiopia, and facilitating a problem-solving process to strengthen relationships and Diaspora motivation and commitment;
- Provide an information service on the latest situation regarding HIV/AIDS and current programs and initiatives in Ethiopia;
- Providing a platform for Diaspora organizations and Ethiopia-based agencies to promote their activities and increase awareness of their roles and accomplishments;
- Providing a discussion forum in which participants can raise and debate issues, ideas, and concerns related to the national HIV/AIDS program; and publish their own findings and papers; and
- Providing comprehensive Internet linkages to sites and information relevant to the fight against AIDS in Ethiopia.
