NEPID Principles
NEPID will operate according to the following principles:
- The highest priority is service to those infected, those at risk, and the victims of AIDS in Ethiopia. This will be used as the basis for evaluating the contributions and performance of NEPID; and will be the reference standard for resolving any disputes among members.
- While NEPID will work with both public and non-governmental organizations, NEPID will operate as an independent, unaffiliated organization.
- NEPID recognizes the diversity and variation that exists in the professional and personal circumstances of members of the Diaspora, and will cater to and support this diversity. This means that NEPID will serve both those who are able to provide voluntary services, and those who can participate only through remunerated assignments.
- NEPID recognizes that the campaign against AIDS requires the involvement and collaboration of multiple agencies and donors, and will therefore represent the widest range possible of Ethiopian and donor partners.
- NEPID recognizes that the battle against HIV/AIDS requires a wide range of disciplines: physicians, laboratory technicians, medical technicians, nurses, social workers, psychologists, sociologists, research design specialists, statisticians, IT specialists, public health management specialists, community facilitators, and the like. NEPID will promote this interactive, multi-disciplinary approach.
- NEPID is committed to work for gender balance in the provision of expert support for the national program to combat AIDS.
- NEPID is committed to the principle of ensuring that Diaspora individuals and organizations are treated in the same way and deserve the same conditions as any other international resources.
- NEPID is committed to complete transparency in all its dealings, and full accessibility to its operations, subject only to its equal commitment to respect the confidentiality of its members.
- While NEPID will begin its activities with the North American-based Diaspora, it will expand its coverage to the international Diaspora as rapidly as is practicable, and will collaborate with partners of any national origin that are contributing to the fight against AIDS in Ethiopia.
